THE SCIENCE

Small moves.
A closer look.

Movement breaks don’t have to be long to be worth studying. Here’s the research behind the idea, and what it can — and can’t — tell us.

These studies examine general movement interventions. They do not establish VAVIVA’s effectiveness, and VAVIVA has not been clinically tested. This information is educational, not medical advice.

01 / EXERCISE SNACKS

Short sessions and cardiorespiratory fitness

The systematic review and meta-analysis by Rodríguez and colleagues included 11 randomised controlled trials involving 414 physically inactive adults. Exercise snacks lasted five minutes or less and were performed at least twice daily.

The review reported improved cardiorespiratory fitness. It did not find significant pooled benefits for blood pressure or blood lipids. These results should not be read as a promise that every short movement break, or using an app, will produce the same effects.

02 / INTERRUPTING SITTING

Activity breaks and after-meal responses

A 2026 systematic review of the acute effects of interrupting prolonged sitting included 53 studies, with 39 included in meta-analyses. It reported lower postprandial (after-meal) glucose and insulin compared with prolonged sitting, particularly with brief walking breaks.

These are short-term responses under the conditions studied. They do not establish long-term disease prevention, and the findings cannot be assumed to apply equally to every type of Move offered by VAVIVA.

What this means for VAVIVA

VAVIVA is designed to make short, guided movement breaks easier to fit into your day. It is not a replacement for all other physical activity or personalised healthcare. Choose movement that suits your circumstances, and speak with a qualified healthcare professional if you’re unsure what’s appropriate for you.
